Careem Bus Service in Saudi Arabia
One of the leading rides hailing app Careem has started a bus service between the Saudi Arabian cities of Jeddah and Makkah.
Careem Bus Service in Saudi Arabia will start with 13-seat buses, it said in a statement.
Careem was recently acquired by Uber for $3.1bn.
The company first launched its bus service in Egypt.
Customers can book through a separate Careem Bus app, but walk-on passengers will be accepted. The service is currently cash-only, but will soon be available through several payment methods, including by credit card or Careem wallet.
The app ensures that every user is guaranteed a seat.
Careem will be hoping to tap into Saudi Arabia’s growing religious tourism market, which is expected to reach 30 million pilgrims annually by 2030, up from eight million at present.
Careem is currently operating in 15 countries.
