Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) on Tuesday directed mobile operators to suspend the decision linking pre-paid mobile recharge with National ID/ Iqama number starting from today, Nov. 15.
The new decision will allow users to top up their pre-paid accounts without entering their National ID / Iqama number, as the applicable procedures aim to limit a large number of unregistered SIM cards in the market, CITC said in a statement.
In July 2012, the telecom regulator ruled that all mobile users must enter their National ID / Iqama number before recharging pre-paid SIM cards.
