COVID-19: Saudi Arabia shuts movie theaters, halts dine-in services for 10 days

Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry has announced new restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus, including the suspension of all recreational activities and events for the next ten days.

According to the SPA report, venues such as cinemas and indoor entertainment establishments or those located in restaurants or shopping centers, etc, gyms and sports centers will be closed for 10 days in a bid to curb the rise of Covid-19 cases.

The ministry said the period of suspension is subject to an extension if deemed necessary by authorities.

As part of the new rules, all events and parties held in banquets, wedding halls, or hotels, including weddings, corporate meetings, and the like, will be suspended for 30 days.

The kingdom will also close dining services in restaurants, cafes, and the like for 10 days, with the period for the rule subject to extension.

According to the ministry, the maximum number of people allowed in gatherings shall not exceed 20 persons for a period of 10 days that may be extended.

The new restrictions will come into effect at 10 pm local time on February 4.
