Non-Saudis will no longer be allowed to work in grocery stores (Baqala’s), confectionery shops and those selling supply and consumer goods, according to a draft decision being prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD).
Jobs in these shops will be 100% Saudized, local daily Al-Madina reported on Monday quoting informed sources from the ministry.
This will open up more than 20,000 job opportunities for Saudis during the first year of the application of the decision, according to the sources.
The Shoura Council recently proposed the closure of small groceries and limiting retail activity to large shopping centres that will employ more male and female Saudis. The proposal received the full support of businessmen, economists and citizens.
