Non-Saudis will be prohibited from working in grocery stores (Baqala), confectionery shops, and businesses selling supply and consumer goods (MLSD), according to a draft decision being prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
Jobs in these shops will be entirely Saudized, local daily Al-Madina reported Monday, citing informed ministry sources.
According to sources, this will result in the creation of more than 20,000 job opportunities for Saudis during the first year of the decision’s implementation.
The Shoura Council recently proposed the closure of small groceries and limiting retail activity to large shopping centers that will employ more male and female Saudis. The proposal received the full support of businessmen, economists, and citizens.
