Ramadan 2022: Itikaf in The Holy Mosques of Makkah and Madina

Itikaf is an Islamic practise consisting of a period of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to Ibadah during these days and staying away from worldly affairs.

After a two-year break, the ritual i’tikaf will resume in the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah during Ramadan 2022. Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, itikaf was suspended at the Two Holy Mosques during Ramadan. The suspension continued during the Ramadan of 2021 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The registration for the Itikaf at the Grand Mosque in Makkah will open on the 1st of Ramadan and continue until Ramadan 5. Registration can be done via the Al Haramain Al Sharifian app or the presidency website.
