Adding an Additional Driver for Your Car in Saudi Arabia

Are you planning to authorize a friend to drive your car in Saudi Arabia? Whether it’s for a short trip or an extended period, granting official permission is essential for ensuring that everything runs smoothly and legally. Thankfully, the process has been simplified thanks to the Absher platform. Here’s a simple guide to help you manage the authorization process with ease.

Understanding the Rights and Considerations

First, it’s important to understand what authorizing a driver entails. The authorized individual will have the right to drive your vehicle within or outside Saudi Arabia, depending on the type of authorization granted. Importantly, any traffic violations incurred during this period will be directly registered against the authorized person, not the vehicle owner.

Important Conditions

However, some conditions must be met to add an authorized driver:

  • One Person, One Vehicle: You can only add one authorized driver per vehicle.
  • Vehicle Requirements: The vehicle must have a valid registration, no outstanding reports against it, and valid insurance.
  • Driver Requirements: The authorized person must have a valid private driving license and must not be on a final-exit visa if they are a resident. Additionally, residents outside the kingdom can only be authorized if they have an exit/re-entry visa, and their authorization period does not exceed the visa duration. Both the vehicle owner and the prospective authorized driver must be free of traffic violations.
  • Absher Accounts: Both parties must have registered and activated Absher accounts.
