No VAT on Medicine and Medical Equipment

The value-added tax (VAT) will not be imposed on drugs, vitamins, medical devices and products registered with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), according to a statement of the authority.

Executive Director of Awareness and Information at the SFDA Abdulrahman Al-Sultan said the authority is closely monitoring pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies to ensure that they are not charging VAT on products exempted from the tax, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

He appealed to consumers to call the General Authority for Zakat and Income on telephone no. 19993 or inform through the VAT mobile app. when they notice anyone charging VAT on such products.
