Saudi Arabia announces three-phase roll out of Covid-19 vaccine

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced a three-phase Covid-19 vaccination programme, as it started registering citizens and expatriate residents after approving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

People over the age of 65 as well as those with a chronic or high risk of infection will receive the vaccine in the first stage and those over the age of 50 will receive the vaccine in the second stage and everyone else will be vaccinated in the third stage,” the Saudi Press Agency report said, citing the Ministry of Health, without specifying the dates for each phase or how long the mass campaign would take.

The ministry opened registration for the vaccination campaign via an online application called “Sehhaty” and said that the vaccine would be “free for all citizens and residents.”

Saudi Arabia last week approved the use of the vaccine developed by US pharmaceuticals giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTec.
