Gatherings of more than five people are banned in Saudi Arabia under a new law announced by the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday.
The interior ministry also announced the formation of a new police unit to monitor violations of rules banning gatherings of more than five people imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
People from more than one family as well as individuals who are not members of the same family gathering are both prohibited, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The new law also bans congregations of individuals in malls or shops and gatherings of individuals who do not live in the same house.
As of today, 33,731 coronavirus cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia, with 219 deaths.
On Thursday, Saudi Arabia announced 1,015 new recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 7,798.
