The number of work visas issued to expatriates in Saudi Arabia increased by 50.5 percent year on year in the second half of 2021, an increase of 319,954 visas, bringing the total number of visas issued to more than 953,000 by the end of the first half of this year.
According to data from the General Authority for Statistics, the number of visas issued decreased to 440,000 in the second quarter, down from 512,000 at the end of the first.
In the first quarter of 2021, approximately 400,000 work visas were issued to men, compared to 111,000 visas issued to women during the same period.
During the first quarter of this year, 298,000 visas were issued to the private sector, 212,000 visas were issued to domestic workers, and only 1,000 visas were issued to the government sector.
Work visas issued to men increased by 763.1 percent year on year in the second quarter of this year, reaching 340,000 visas, compared to 39,000 visas in the second quarter of 2020.
The number of work visas granted to women has also increased to 100,000 from 10,000 in the second quarter of 2020.
