Telecom Ministry Looking to Boost Mobile Internet Speeds by 150%

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is looking to boost mobile internet speeds by 150 per cent to 28 megabytes per second (MBPS), the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing minister Abdullah bin Amer Alisha.

The ministry also targets to reach an internet speed of 45 MBps by 2020, the minister added.

“We will extend fibre optics networks to 700 households by year-end and to 3.5 million households by 2020,” he explained.

The Kingdom recently eyes several partnerships with the private sector to develop the telecommunications and information technology infrastructure, especially high-speed broadband, expand coverage and improve quality.
