Saudi Arabia has suspended Whatsapp’s voice and video call services as the app fails to meet its regulatory requirements, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported, citing Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais, governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).

Other voice and video call services are available in the Kingdom, he said on the sidelines of the ICT Indicators Forum 2019, which was held in Riyadh on Wednesday.

CITC does not mind selling open pre-paid data cards, but the internationally implemented regulations and policies do not allow that for the time being, he said.

Earlier this month, after a while, WhatsApp call services were functional in Saudi Arabia.
