Facebook-owned WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram went down for thousands of users this evening, according to outage tracking website downdetector.com.
Downdetector.com tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. These outages might be affecting a larger number of users.
The three apps, all of which are part of the Facebook company, share common technology.
When users opened the app, they received error messages and were unable to send or receive messages.
Many people have been tweeting about problems with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
