WhatsApp has announced that it will no longer support older versions of iOS starting May 5, 2025. This change means iPhones running iOS versions earlier than 15.1 will not be able to use the app. The decision will mainly affect iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus users.
Newer iPhones will continue to work with WhatsApp, but they need to be updated to the latest available iOS version. WhatsApp explained that this step is necessary to keep up with new technology and provide better features to its users.
In a message sent to affected users, WhatsApp stated: “Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after 5 May 2025. Please go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version.
For iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus users, the last available iOS version is iOS 12.5.7, which is not compatible with WhatsApp’s future updates. These iPhones were released over 10 years ago, so only a small number of users are expected to be affected.
To avoid losing access to WhatsApp, users with older iPhones should either update to the latest iOS version (if possible) or upgrade to a newer device that supports iOS 15.1 or later.
This change does not affect Android users, who can continue using WhatsApp without any interruptions.
