Saudi Arabia Extends Work Permit Correction Deadline Until End of 2026

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) has extended the deadline for employers to rectify the status of expatriate workers whose work permits expired more than 12 months ago.

The extension applies to expatriate workers whose work permits expired more than 12 months ago. It also covers workers who have not been issued a work permit within six months of joining their employer.

Why the Deadline Was Extended

According to the ministry, the extension is intended to improve compliance with Saudi labor regulations, protect the rights of both parties to the employment relationship, and allow establishments and workers to complete the required legal procedures within the specified period.

Part of Ongoing Compliance Efforts

The ministry explained that the decision is part of its ongoing efforts to raise compliance levels across Saudi Arabia’s labor market.

It also noted that the extension follows a positive response from many employers and workers who have already begun correcting their employment status under the initiative.

Employers Urged to Act Before the Deadline

HRSD has urged employers and affected workers to renew existing work permits or issue new ones before the extended deadline expires at the end of 2026.
