Eid Al Fitr 2025 Date in Saudi Arabia: Will Ramadan Be 29 or 30 Days?
The Saudi Supreme Court has called on Muslims in the Kingdom to observe the crescent moon this evening and report any sightings to the nearest court. However, astronomers widely predict that the crescent will not be visible today due to unfavorable conditions.
Experts say that on March 29, the moon will be in conjunction with the sun, making it impossible to see, even with optical aids. Saudi astronomer Bader Al Omaira has stated that the Shawwal crescent will set before the sun, and the conjunction will happen after sunset, ruling out any possibility of sighting.
Despite this, some forecasts suggest a chance of sighting the crescent on Saturday, March 29. Weather expert Abdullah Al-Osaimi predicts favorable conditions in central and eastern regions for moon sighting on that evening. However, Al Omaira and other astronomers insist that spotting the crescent on Saturday, whether with the naked eye or telescopes, will not be possible.
Since Saudi Arabia and most Islamic countries require an actual sighting to confirm the start of Shawwal, Ramadan is expected to last 30 days, with Eid Al Fitr falling on Monday, March 31. The International Astronomical Centre in Abu Dhabi also confirmed that sighting the Shawwal crescent on March 29 is impossible across the Arab and Islamic world.
If the crescent is not sighted on Saturday, Ramadan will continue for 30 days, and Eid Al Fitr will be observed on March 31. However, if a confirmed sighting does occur, Eid will be celebrated a day earlier, on Sunday, March 30.
