Fuel stations across the Kingdom currently offer two gasoline types—91 and 95—with 98-octane fuel launching soon to expand options based on vehicle needs and engine performance.
This range reflects differences in engine technology and operating requirements, ensuring suitable fuel choices across vehicle categories.
Gasoline 91 suits most engines operating at low to medium compression ratios and offers a practical balance between performance and fuel cost.
Gasoline 95 is designed for engines with medium to high compression, including vehicles equipped with moderate turbo or boost systems.
Gasoline 98 targets engines with high internal compression, due to advanced engine design or high-boost turbo systems.
Such engines require higher octane fuel to prevent premature ignition and knocking during high-performance operation.
Saudi Aramco’s rollout of Gasoline 98 begins in January, adding a new option without affecting the availability of 91 or 95.
This premium fuel serves sports cars and high-performance vehicles requiring elevated octane levels, which account for less than 0.5% of vehicles in the Kingdom.
In the initial phase, Gasoline 98 will be available in Riyadh, Jeddah, the Dammam metropolitan area, and the highways linking these cities.
These locations were selected as they host the highest concentration of vehicles requiring this fuel grade.
No gasoline type is inherently superior; the correct choice depends on the vehicle’s engine specifications.
Vehicle owners unsure of the appropriate grade should consult the owner’s manual or contact an authorized dealer.
