Indian passport holders can currently travel to 56 destinations without obtaining a regular visa in advance, according to the latest Henley Passport Index update.
The available destinations include countries and territories offering visa-free entry, visa on arrival (VOA), or electronic travel authorisation (ETA).
India is ranked 80th globally in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, according to the latest data displayed by Henley & Partners. The index evaluates 199 passports based on access to 227 travel destinations and uses travel information supplied by the International Air Transport Association.

However, travellers should understand that “without a regular visa” does not always mean completely visa-free. Some destinations issue a visa after arrival, while others require travellers to obtain an online travel authorisation before departure.

An ETA is not a conventional embassy visa. It is an online authorisation that must normally be approved before the traveller boards the flight.
What travellers should check before departure
Visa-free access, VOA and ETA facilities may come with conditions involving passport validity, return tickets, hotel reservations, travel insurance, proof of funds and the maximum permitted stay.
Some arrangements may also apply only to tourists, passengers arriving through selected airports or travellers meeting additional eligibility conditions.
Entry policies can change at short notice. Travellers should therefore verify the latest requirements through the destination’s official immigration portal, airline or diplomatic mission before booking or travelling.
