Qassim Police Arrest Resident for Child Harassment
Qassim Police arrested an Indian resident, Islam Ali Khan, on charges of harassing a child. Authorities confirmed his detention, stating that legal measures are underway, and he will soon be referred to the Public Prosecution.
Recently, Saudi authorities have intensified actions against harassment. A Cabinet decision in January 2021 added a new clause to Article 6 of the Anti-Harassment Law, allowing for the public defamation of convicted harassers. This change aims to deter harassment by making such cases more visible.
Under the Anti-Harassment Law, harassment can lead to severe penalties. Convicted individuals may face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 100,000 riyals, or both. For repeat offenses or cases involving specific circumstances, such as harassment in public places, or against children or people with special needs, the penalties increase. Repeat offenders could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to 300,000 riyals, or both.
The arrest in Qassim reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to enforcing stricter harassment laws and protecting vulnerable individuals.
