Saudi Traffic Law Now Penalizes Driving with Expired Istimara

Saudi Arabia has amended its Traffic Law, making it a violation to drive a vehicle with an expired registration (Istimara).

The amendment was approved during a Cabinet session in Riyadh on Tuesday, chaired by King Salman.

As part of the changes, Article 71 of the Traffic Law has been removed. This article previously imposed fines of SAR 100 per year, capped at SAR 300, for delayed license and registration renewals, with a 60-day grace period after expiration.

A new provision has now been added to the Traffic Violations Schedule, specifically penalizing drivers who operate vehicles with expired registrations on public roads.
