The General Directorate of Civil Defense has emphasized the importance of keeping fire extinguishers in homes and learn how to use them correctly, saying proper preparedness can help protect lives and property during fire emergencies.
The authority said that having a fire extinguisher readily available can help protect lives and property by enabling a quick response during the early stages of a fire.
According to the Civil Defense, dry powder fire extinguishers are particularly effective for dealing with a wide range of household fires. Their fast response helps limit the spread of flames and bring fires under control before they escalate.
The directorate also shared guidance on the proper use of a fire extinguisher. It advised people to maintain a safe distance from the fire, pull the safety pin, aim the nozzle at the base of the flames, squeeze the handle, and use the extinguisher in the direction of the wind rather than against it.
Officials stressed that following the correct operating steps can improve the effectiveness of the extinguisher while helping users stay safe during an emergency.
The Civil Defense further encouraged the public to follow official safety instructions and awareness campaigns published through various media outlets and social media platforms.
In case of emergencies, residents should call 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 998 in all other regions of Saudi Arabia to request assistance.
