The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has officially opened registration for i’tikaf during the last ten nights of Ramadan 2026.
For millions of Muslims, the last ten days of Ramadan hold immense spiritual significance. Performing i’tikaf — a period of dedicated worship and seclusion in the mosque — at the Grand Mosque in Makkah or the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah is a deeply cherished goal. If you’re in Saudi Arabia and hoping to do this, here’s what you need to know.
When Did Registration Open?
Registration opened on Friday, 3 Ramadan 1447 AH at 11:00 a.m., following an official announcement from the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
When Does I’tikaf Begin?
I’tikaf will start on 20 Ramadan and continue through to the end of 30 Ramadan, covering the sacred last ten nights of the holy month.
How to Register
Registration is handled exclusively through the official electronic portal:

- Select your preferred i’tikaf location — either the Grand Mosque (Makkah) or the Prophet’s Mosque (Madinah)
- Review and agree to the terms and conditions
- Complete all required personal information
- Submit your application
Once submitted, applications will be reviewed based on approved capacity limits, so not all applicants are guaranteed a spot.
