Saudi Arabia introduced a 25% discount on traffic fines for violations committed on or after April 18, 2024, under Article 75 of the Traffic Law. This ongoing initiative aims to encourage timely fine payments and ease the financial burden on all residents, including expatriates.
What Is Article 75?
Article 75 of the Saudi Traffic Law allows a 25% reduction on single traffic violations if the fine is paid within a specified timeframe. Failure to pay within this period may lead to enforcement actions, including imprisonment and vehicle seizure.
How to Benefit from the 25% Discount
- Initial Payment Window: Pay the fine within 45 days of the violation date to receive a 25% discount.
- Extended Payment Option: If unable to pay within 45 days, request a 90-day extension through the Absher platform. The discount remains applicable if payment is made within the first 30 days of this extension.
- Objection Period: You have 30 days from the violation date to file an objection. If the objection is rejected, the fine must be paid within 15 days to avoid enforcement actions.
Exclusions from the Discount
The 25% discount does not apply to certain serious violations, including:
- Drifting.Â
- Driving under the influence of drugs or banned substances.Â
- Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h on roads with a 120 km/h limit, or by more than 30 km/h on roads with a 140 km/h limit. Â
Additionally, if no objection is filed within 30 days, or if the fine is not paid within the initial 15-day grace period (and no extension is requested), the discount becomes inapplicable.
Payment Methods
Fines can be paid through:
- SADAD payment system.
- Efaa platform.
Ensure payments are made through official channels to avoid scams.
Consequences of Non-Payment
If fines remain unpaid after the designated periods:
- Enforcement actions may include imprisonment and vehicle seizure.
- The violator becomes ineligible for the 25% discount.
