Saudi Arabia’s General Transport Authority has announced the outcome of nationwide transport inspections conducted in January 2026, revealing widespread non-compliance in the road sector.
Authorities carried out 437,735 inspections across land, sea, and rail transport. The road transport sector accounted for 430,066 of those checks.
Inspectors uncovered 90,281 road violations and 14 maritime violations. A total of 1,045 non-compliant vehicles were seized during the campaign.
The road transport sector recorded a 93% compliance rate, according to the authority.
Regional breakdown
Makkah region registered the highest number of violations with 30,354 cases. Riyadh followed with 24,831 violations, and the Eastern Province recorded 11,301.
Madinah saw 6,039 violations, while Asir reported 4,032 cases.
Common violations
The most frequent offences included failure to meet vehicle and cargo safety standards, operating transport services without a valid driving licence, and using cancelled licences to drive commercial vehicles.
Authorities also took strict action against individuals illegally operating taxi services with private vehicles without proper licences, the authority said.
Maritime and rail compliance
In the maritime sector, 7,574 inspections achieved a 99% compliance rate, with only 14 violations recorded.
The railway sector saw 95 inspections during the same period. No violations were recorded, resulting in 100% compliance.
