Saudi Arabia Restricts General Manager Role to Citizens Only

The Qiwa platform has removed the general manager profession from its records for expatriate workers, according to Saudi Gazette.

The profession is now restricted to Saudi citizens only.

Changes for Existing Employees

Establishments that currently employ expatriates registered as general managers can change their job titles to alternative professions, the platform stated.

Permitted alternatives include CEO or chairman of the board, provided the employee is registered in the commercial registration under the same profession and no other employees hold the same title within the establishment.

Additional Profession Restrictions

Qiwa has also begun suspending the profession change service for several other expatriate job categories.

The restricted professions include sales representative, marketing specialist, and purchase manager, in addition to general manager.

When employers attempt to change these professions on the platform, a message appears stating: “Sorry, the employee’s current profession cannot be changed.”

The platform explained that when this message is displayed, it is not possible to change from that profession to another, or vice versa.
