If you’re new to Saudi Arabia and want to check your Iqama status or find your Iqama number, this guide will show you how. You can verify your Iqama issuance and validity using only your border number through the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) website.
What is a Border Number?
A border number is a unique 10-digit identification code issued by the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) to every expatriate or visitor upon entering Saudi Arabia on a new visa. Immigration officials typically handwrite this number on your passport’s visa page when you arrive in the Kingdom.
This number serves as your reference for various administrative processes while your Iqama is being processed. If you need to retrieve your border number, you can find it through the Absher platform’s “Query Border Number” service without needing to create an account. For detailed instructions, see our guide: [How to Find Your Border Number on Absher Without Login].
How to Check Iqama Status with Border Number
You can check your Iqama status directly through the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development inquiry portal. This service displays your Iqama number, issuance status, and validity details.
Step-by-step process:
- Visit the MHRSD basic info page at: https://es.hrsd.gov.sa/IndividualUser/BasicInfo.aspx
- Accept the service agreement by checking the consent box and clicking the green button to proceed.
- Switch the language to English using the language selector at the top of the page for easier navigation.
- Enter your 10-digit border number in the first field under Border Number (or displayed in Arabic as “رقم الحدود”).
- Provide your date of birth as shown in your passport. You can select either Gregorian or Hijri calendar format.
- Fill in the image verification code (captcha) displayed on the screen.
- Click the “Next” button (or displayed in Arabic as “التالي”).
- Enter OTP if prompted. If a mobile number is registered in your name, you may be asked to verify your mobile number with a One-Time Password sent via SMS. Enter the code if requested.

The system will then display your complete Iqama information, including:
- Your Iqama number (if issued)
- Issuance status
- Validity period

Why Use This Method?
This simple verification method helps you stay informed about your residency status without needing an Absher account. It’s particularly useful for:
- New expatriates waiting for their physical Iqama card
- Checking if your Iqama has been issued by your employer
- Verifying your Iqama validity and expiry date
Important note: If no Iqama information appears after entering your border number, it likely means your Iqama hasn’t been processed yet. In this case, contact your employer or sponsor for an update on your residency application status.
