Under 4 Conditions, Huroob Expats Can Rectify Their Status Without Employer Consent

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) revealed four conditions in which expatriates with “runaway” or “absent from work” status (Huroob) can rectify their status without their employers’ permission.

The deputy minister for Labor Affairs, Abdul Majeed Al-Rashoodi, was quoted in the local media as saying that the cancellation process could only be carried out once a number of conditions were met.

The huroob status can be cancelled if any of the following conditions are met:

  1. If the status of the employer’s business or establishment is listed as “non-existent.”
  2. If the facility’s status is “under process” and the employer hasn’t started another file for the facility within 30 days of placing the file.
  3. In the event, that the establishment is in the red zone and has not committed to recording contracts for at least 75% of its staff.
  4. If the business is in the red zone and hasn’t committed to protecting 80% of its workers’ wages.
