If you’re a vehicle owner in Saudi Arabia and want to authorize someone else—whether a Saudi citizen or a resident—to drive your car, you can easily do it online through the Absher platform. Here are the steps.
How to Issue a Driving Authorization on Absher
- Log in to your Absher account at absher.sa.
- Go to “My Services” > “Vehicle Services”.
- Select the vehicle you want to authorize.
- Click on “Vehicle Authorization Service”.
- Tap “Issue Authorization”.
- Choose the type of authorization:
- Valid within Saudi Arabia only, or
- Valid both inside and outside Saudi Arabia
- Enter the Iqama number and date of birth of the person you wish to authorize.
- Review the entered details, then click “Issue Authorization”.
Once completed, the authorized person will receive an SMS notification with the vehicle details and validity period. To activate the authorization, they must log in to their Absher account and accept the request.
Terms and Conditions
- The vehicle must have both valid registration and active insurance.
- The authorization expiry date must not exceed:
- The vehicle registration expiry date
- The driving license validity of the authorized person
- The re-entry visa validity (if the person is currently outside the Kingdom)
- Authorization is not allowed for individuals holding a final exit visa.
Requirements
- The vehicle owner must be the one issuing the authorization.
- The vehicle must have active insurance.
- Both parties (owner and authorized driver) must have active Absher accounts.
- If the authorized person is abroad, they must have a valid re-entry visa covering the full duration of the authorization.
Authorize someone to use your vehicle through Absher is simple—no paperwork or office visits required. Make sure your documents and accounts are up to date; once the request is accepted, they can legally drive your car as per the set terms.
